On International Women’s Day we would like to pay tribute to the women of Lifehouse. The theme this year is #BalanceforBetter. Lifehouse is filled with inspirational role models for young women, paving the way for the next generation of women surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, nurses, radiologists, fundraisers and many more. By those in leadership positions to those forging the way in nursing like Shannon Philp – Australia’s first and only gynae-oncology nurse practitioner – and Justine Oates and Sarah Davies – the first head and neck cancer nurse practitioners – and all the women who provide specialised, dedicated care to our patients and our community, clinical or otherwise, we are shown that a balanced world is a better world. We’d like to introduce another wonderful woman of Lifehouse, Dr Rhonda Farrell, deputy director of gynae-oncology. Read about Rhonda’s research to improve survival of women with ovarian cancer and how she is inspiring young women at high school to follow a path into medicine and science.
