Help change the face of ovarian cancer
Our new deputy director of gynae-oncology, Dr Rhonda Farrell, is currently focused on a new type of chemotherapy treatment called HIPEC (Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy). This treatment involves delivering a heated chemotherapy solution into the abdomen of patients with ovarian cancer. This ensures that a greater concentration of treatment is used directly on the cancer cells and avoids side effects as a result of intravenous chemotherapy.
The use of HIPEC continues to bring up more questions that Dr Farrell is determined to answer. “We still don’t know whether it’s the heating of HIPEC itself, the direct contact with the drug or a combination of both that is most effective,” says Dr Farrell.
Your donations will go directly to allowing Dr Farrell to answer these questions in addition to research just like this in other cancer fields. This work allows us to ensure that we are using the most up to date and effective treatment plan with our patients.
